About Pat White

Pat White is the former starting quarterback for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was born February 25, 1986 in Daphne, Alabama. He is also a candidate for the 2008 Heisman Trophy which is awarded to the best player in college football. He finished fourth in the 2007 Heisman voting and won the MVP award in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl when WVU beat Oklahoma 48-28 behind a performance where he rushed for 150 yards and passed for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pat was drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 2004 MLB Draft and his name has appeared as recently as the 2008 June MLB draft when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds despite not playing baseball since high school.

Pat played high school football at Daphne High where he had a stellar career including his senior year when he rushed for over 1900 yards and 31 touchdowns. His passing stats were just as good with 1,488 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was recruited by schools such as Auburn, Kentucky, and LSU but decided on WVU because he was promised that he would have a chance to play quarterback.

Pat started his collegiate career in 2005 against Syracuse University with 63 yards passing and 20 yards rushing. At this time he was sharing the quarterback duties with Adam Bednarik but Bednarik went down in the seventh game against Louisville and Pat came in and led WVU to a stunning come from behind triple overtime victory. He and running back Steve Slaton brought the Mountaineers to the college football world’s attention by leading WVU to win the final games of the season and an upset win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2006 Sugar Bowl. He has only missed one start in his remaining years at WVU and has set numerous West Virginia and Big East records. Pat has also been near the top in some national records such as 6th on the NCAA single-season rushing list for quarterbacks and 1st in NCAA career quarterback rushing yards.
